Fr? I just grab it
Chat my hands not that big 😂
If your hands are big enough use two fingers.
using two fingers does not provide any advantage
@@SnapSoftball It will allow more roll off your fingers allowing more movement and allow more snap creating greater speed. There is a reason a fastball is thrown with two and a changeup is thrown with three.
I do a 4 finger horse shoe around the ball for true spin and I don’t grip the ball I put space inbetween the ball and my hand it shows true spin and I also do the same thing pitching.
When exactly are you taking the time to get a perfect grip? As far as I have ever noticed the only time someone has the time to adjust their grip is during pitching. However this is an overhand throwing grip
I'm not sure if you are serious or not. Every single serious player I ever met, worked on getting the best grip possible in the transfer glove to hand, to ensure they are repeating the exact same thing each rep.
players always feel for their grip if they have any extra time. Maybe you don't. But high-level players take any available time to work the ball in their hands for a better grip - even if its just a half a second. Many plays dont allow for gripping the ball, though, as you point out, but many others do.
I play casual Softball and I also play in and independent Women's softball team that my gal pal created. I have small hands and I can pitch fast ball pretty good. It takes time to warm up, but I take breaks and the team takes a two week break to relax and not overdo it.
found this video when my daugher was 10, I was looking for ways to get her over the top and consistent rotation on the ball as she was learning, these two drills are still what she starts her throwing routine with everytime - she's 14 now and was clocked at 60 this week!! Thank you guys!
Fantastic!
Lol, my daughter broke the mold in high school. She was a 5'2 100lb catcher who was fast. She used her ice hockey/fh skills to block, and her speed to pop up fast. She also played short.
I was good ball player. I played fast pitch and baseball. In high school I was a pitcher, and that’s where I developed my throwing arm. After high school, I played fast pitch. No bragging intended, but I could throw a 12 inch softball over 300 feet. I went to the ball Diamond across the street, and threw 12 inch softballs from the centre field fence all the way to the backstop, and right over home plate. I’m retired now.
At the youth level I hate this mentality. It ruins the game. Put the bat on the ball if you can reach it and hustle. My girls ain’t taking pitches. Hitters hit.
there's a balance of discipline and aggressiveness at all ages. out of balances is bad at all levels. the absolute best hitters in the world are also the most disciplined - that's what "hitters hit" means. Great hitters take bad pitches.
New too the channel! We have a big tournament and I’m just picking up game - 12 u dad here
The corners then when we up we throw the change up -softball dad 12 u
Awesome stuff explained perfectly
Is there a video of you actually throwing the ball? This was very good but I’d like to see examples.
Should of fielded and thrown some pal
thanks dad
That's called backspin.
When you take that skip step (outfield & outfield) I'm already releasing the ball ½ second before you.
congrats, internet troll
Thanks!
Thanks! I am a softball catcher and the only one on my team so this will help me a lot!
Very serious question i played baseball my whole life and i cant throw a softball short range but i can still throw bombs why is this.?
i dont know
@@SnapSoftball 😭 nobody knows it sucks im not even joking lol i look like an uncoordinated idiot trying to throw back to the pitcher if im catching but i can play outfield fine and even throw down to second on point
@@SnapSoftball if you have any specific tips for transitioning from throwing a baseball to a softball thatd be awesome ive watched a bunch of your videos already and looked around youtube nobody specifically touches on transitioning from throwing baseballs to softballs only the hitting which i dont really have a problem with i also have kind of small hands not sure if thats really making it harder for me or just in my head
sorry to be cavalier about it but there's really not much to discuss to the transition - it's a different object. you throw it basically the exact same way. it sounds like your short-distance throwing issues are just mental - a case of the yips, it sounds like.
@@SnapSoftball kinda figured it may be the same thing but was not sure if there was something i was missing I appreciate the feedback anyways think im just gonna get throwing more often and see if that works itself out
I wanna start softball again but I’m self conscious about myself, but I’m trying again to play
go do it
ive seen some pretty bad stuff in slow-pitch i wish they made all infielders wear gear
the line drives I've seen just in videos are absolutely terrifying - stuff that MLB infielders would have a tough time with. the exit speeds off these bats are just crazy.
This video is legit. I wear a cup because I pitch, and I've thought about a mask and shin guards. I've taken a hard line-drive to the ankle and you could see stich marks on the bruise. A helmet is more important for baserunning than at the plate. I've been hit in the back while running to second. I hit the runner when they were running to first. Luckily they weren't hit in the head.
Yeah I think that's what people forget - a helmet isn't for the plate, it's for the base paths. I get really nervous heading for third if there's a chance a throw is coming in behind me. I just got tired of putting both hands behind my head for protection. Rather be the square wearing a helmet than pray it doesnt happen for the next 10 years
Have you ever worked with someone post-reverse shoulder replacement? I’m a recreational softball senior looking to get back to pre-surgery throwing.
no; I don't take on clients with injuries, sorry (nor am I taking clients at all)
If you get hit in softball, is that an automatic first base?
yes
I’m a pitcher in 10u and ur videos help me out so much
Always such good stuff!!
Pinching the shoulder blades good tip!
Well said, there are many kids and coaches struggling with this philosophy, and the arm slot.
its really sad and frustrating - with the small field, softball is a game built for sidearm throws - they're fast and just as accurate when practiced. But the nonsensical focus on everything being over the top has really damaged the game. MLB infielders throw sidearm as their default, over-the-top when they have a longer throw and need the extra MPHs. This same strategy would work even better in softball than it does in baseball.
Excellent talk here coach Dan. This is a great discussion going over how to take an honest look at your skills and body type, from a “next level scouting” perspective, to find your path to improvement. Coach Dan provides questions to ask, in taking an honest audit of capabilities at each position, to help uncover what “track” may be the best fit- “Do you have the range to field balls in extreme left center field? Do you have the wheels and the arm for that position? Can these skills be practiced and improved?, if not, is there a more appropriate track (position) for me to begin pursuing now? - Would your coach say you’re ready for “next level play”? She would?! But at a different position?? Whyzatt? Thanks for the great talk coach! T
I've been getting back into playing slowpitch again and enjoying these short informative videos with easy to understand tips and advice without any filler. I just subscribed so keep the good content coming!
Alot of the D1 collage clinics I have attentnded talk about the glove side finish being pinkies to pits but you have a completely different take on this. Do you have a video about this for some clarity?
yes, search my channel, and I'd suggest watching breakdowns of MLB pitchers and infielders - they are the best throwers in the world, and what a lot of softball coaches (even for D1 players and D1 coaches) teach is based in nonsense that was taught 15-25 years ago, when they were kids themselves. The baseball world has outed a lot of coaches, because there is nowhere to hide from slow-motion video. Throwing siderarm, the glove arm can come to the arm pit and is often in front of the pec. But when throwing overhand - such as from the outfield or a deep throw from the hole, the glove arm can tuck, but will usually fall to the side. Search my channel for more on glove side mechanics.
Hello Coach I am Drici Roy Ronald from Arua City WestNile Uganda, please could you come and promote the game here
always happy to travel - see if your organization will fly me out.
Great stuff, this should be taught by coaches in all areas, thanks Dan
What size glove do u recommend for slowpitch? I tend to switch infield and outfield
12.75"
Will that help with pain? I suffer from pain for one to two days after every game or practice.
dont know.
Okay I played softball for over 14 years of my life why did nobody ever say this... wtf?!
Fr
Great video, super helpful. I watched this right before practice and it was a big help to have some structure to my warmup.
Great to hear!
I needed this. I have an 8 year old daughter who is loving playing. She can hit, she can field, she loves playing catcher, but she just can’t throw the damn ball. She either pushes it and it doesn’t go far, or she throws it hard and releases late and it hits the ground and rolls to her teammates. Her twin brother is excelling in baseball and can pitch pretty hard for 8u. It’s tough trying to practice with both of them because one is fundamentally way further along than the other. Hoping this helps.
Would it be possible for me to make it d2 school I’ve played varsity 9 and 11 I wasn’t able to play grade 10 but I practice everyday
it only depends on how good you are
Bro we don’t have time to worry about that stuff in a game
thanks bro
you do if your good cause if youre an out fielder ir even infielder this can be on the transition from glove to hand and becomes second nature over time
Great video. I'm in my 40's and getting into slow pitch after having not played ball for ~10 years and all these tips and fundamentals videos on your channel have been super helpful!
Softball is my life and I love working out for it
Great video bro, I've been struggling with trying to my daughter throw stronger and not side/under/twist, drives me crazy lol
Nice video as usual. Does anything change in the grip versus a normal over the top throw? Or is it just the arm mechanics that are different?
the grip doesnt change, nope.
A great video, helpful and easy to follow. Nice slow step by step to start as you talk through it, then speed up to a more natural pace, and I appreciate that you added some live throws at the end versus your older videos where you didn't.
how do i stop throwing sidearm? it's what ive been taught mostly from coaches not taking the time they needed to work on it.
i have a video on this - search for it.
Great video
you are so wrong, as a lefty I all-stared at all 4 infield positions
nope, not wrong.
